Journey 9th Ward took 6 feet of water in the storm surge of Hurricane
Katrina. The congregation had moved on but the church sat gutted and
empty. In the spring of 2007, the property became Journey 9th Ward and
the dream to reach the hurting and lost of the 9th Ward began.
Pastor
Robert Burnside was sitting on a dream with his wife Shedrian. They had returned to New Orleans from ministry in Oakland, Ca just a few weeks before Katrina hit the city. They evacuated with unpacked boxes and a newborn baby; but they knew they would be back as the waters went down. They knew God wanted them to reach out to the people whose storms never seemed to end. God's plan for Journey 9th Ward met with His plan for Pastor Robert and Shedrian.
Pastor Robert was hired in January of 2008. His dreams of changing
the community by rebuilding the church are being nurtured. The first
Summer of Service started the neighborhood buzz. Vacation Bible School
brought the laughter of children into the Outreach Building again. On November 9, joyous Worship will be heard on Alvar Street with the Dedication Service. There is much to do to finish rebuilding the church so we can be the
hand's of Christ to the 9th Ward. Join us.
