  • Requested Artwork "Friend Of Sinners"

Hi my name is Nick Brown. I work on the media team as a web/graphic and motion graphic artist.

While Pastor Doug was at his conference, someone asked him if he could have our artwork for the Friend of Sinners month.

I've created a link with a zipped folder containing both artwork pieces. ie. "Welcome Slide, Scripture slide" and the original photoshop .PSD work file, in case u want to edit the layers.

As far as media goes, our hopes are to one day put together packages for our message series so that other churches in need of fresh ideas can come to our resources page and find material that could help them grow their church in the 21st Century. As we all know, Pastor's heart is to plant churches. Many starter churches simply do not have the resources to hire a graphic artist to come up with new artwork every month. We hope to be a church that can share our creative ideas with the body of Christ, and empower them with the necessary tools of a media ministry. We hope to hold creative church conferences in the near future, where churches, pastors and staff can come from all over this region to sit in and allow us to pour into their lives our experience as a media driven church, and encourage "outside of the box thinking".

In the meantime here is the requested artwork. Can't wait to see what God does next in our Journey.

Just click on the link and save the zipped drive to your desktop.

  • New Elementary Pastor

We are growing!  Not only is Journey adding new families each week, but we've hired a new elementary pastor to take over for Pastor Sidney so he can concentrate full time on ministering to our youth.  Pastor Allen Borgen will kick off in Fusion this Sunday, June 1.  Pastor Allen arrives here fresh off the mission field.  He spent the past three years ministering and serving children in Guatemala.  Before that he did children's ministry at his church in Georgia and also worked in law enforcement.  As you can see, his background will allow him to care for our children spiritually AND handle anything they can dish out!  Pastor Allen and his wife, Sheila, have three beautiful children - Isaiah, Jeremiah and Lily.  They also have a baby due in July.  When you see them in Fusion, please make them feel welcome.  And when your child comes home excited about the new pastor and the new things that are happening, why not drop them a line to let them know?  The Journey continues...
  • Reach Deep

We finished the first semester of the Tuesday night Reach Deep classes last night. Over 100 families participated.  A brand new summer semester kicks off June 3rd with something for everyone.  We will have a Girlfriends class just for women and a Band of Brothers group for men.  There will be a parenting class, a singles over 30 class and a study on the parables of Jesus.  There is even a class for teenagers called "Datable" to teach them how to handle dating in a godly way.  Of course, we have Fusion and  preschool ministry too.  Bring the whole family on a journey to God's house this summer.  You'll get a break from the kids, be encouraged in your faith and make new friends at the same time.  What a deal!
  • Band Of Brothers

Last Friday night we held a crawfish boil for the men’s ministry of Journey. This was my first crawfish boil of the season. Man they were tasty. I couldn’t get enough of the sausage and onions. If you are reading this blog entry from outside of Louisiana it may be hard to understand how seriously we take crawfish boils. It’s a part of our culture that weaves together food and relationships. Definitely a Cajun thing. We capped the night off with worship and the Word. I had a blast hanging out with the guys. Thanks Ronnie for boiling to perfection. Also thanks to Marshall and Luis for coming early to pull it all together.

  • Church Planting Guru

Last week I hung out with Steve Pike of the National Church Planting office in Springfield, MO. We met at the Airport Hilton in New Orleans then went to tour our newest campus in the Ninth Ward. Robert Burnside, (Journey Ninth Ward Campus Pastor) and Al Eden (Louisiana Church Planting Director) traveled with us also. We had an awesome night. For dinner we stopped at Copeland’s in Slidell, then finished the night by touring the new Northshore campus of Journey. I am very proud about the passion and aggressive nature that the AG is displaying about planting new life giving churches. I love church planting. Man, I love my job.

  • Fine Arts Festival

Our fellowship of churches host an annual Fine Arts Festival. People from around the nation enter and compete in categories ranging from drama and photography to public speaking and music. There are over 12000 churches in the fellowship so the talent is thick. The regional event was held this past weekend in Lafayette, LA. Our very own youth band from Momentum entered and played in the worship band category. Well congratulations are in order. Momentum’s worship band is headed to the National competition. They will be traveling to Charlotte in August to compete. Way to go guys. I’m proud of you all. Megan, Bernard, Chad, Christian, Kim, Brandon, and Patrick. You guys are awesome.
  • S.O.S. @ J9

SOS @ J9 means our Summer Of Service is being held at Journey Ninth Ward this year. Summer of Service is a servant evangelism event each summer at Journey. We demonstrate the love of God to our neighbors is practical ways.  And J9 is short for Journey Ninth Ward. This morning we held a planning meeting at our J9 Campus and did a prayer walk in the neighborhood. Next Saturday we will start going door to door on Alvar Street doing works of service for our neighbors in the Ninth Ward. There was some really bad weather today while we were there so I really appreciate all those who came out to SOS @ J9. You can join us next Saturday from 9 til Noon. Free T Shirt for all who show up to serve next weekend . (While supplies last. See offer for details. Not available in Alaska , Hawaii , or Guam. Wearer must be present to win.) I’ve always wanted to do that.

  • Convoy Of Hope

Today at Fountainebleau State Park we are partnering with several area churches to sponsor a Convoy of Hope outreach. Thousands of people still reeling from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina will come for free physical and spiritual resources to help their families. Beginning at 10 AM Convoy will be giving away free groceries to any family in need. And there will be ministry geared especially to children. This is all made possible by the cooperation of many local churches in the area. The local mastermind behind the scenes of this outreach is Pastor Ralph Boutte. Thanks Ralph for your vision and commitment to help hurting people on the Nothshore.

I’m so proud of the more than 70 volunteer leaders from Journey who served more than 2,000 people on Saturday at the Convoy of Hope outreach at Fontainebleau State Park. The Outreach took place on Saturday April 26, 2008 Great job team.
We partnered with Convoy after Katrina to serve as a relief center for the south side of Slidell. Thousands of families were served in the days following the hurricane in 2005. Check them out at www.convoyofhope.org

  • 3 weekend "experiences"

I’m changing the word that we use to describe our worship gatherings from “Service” to “Experience”. It seems to better capture the reason we gather. We get together weekly believing people will have an experience with GOD. That is really the point isn’t it. Since the storm, we have been adding weekend experiences here at Journey. We started with one in the parking lot the Sunday after Katrina, then added a second when we moved in to the Harbor Center. Now that we are in our new campus, we have added a third. Saturday 6 PM. Sunday 9 and 11 AM. All three experiences are healthy. Sunday at 11 is already full.

  • Fusion Weekend

Our Elementary ministry is called FUSION. It’s geared to kids from First to Sixth grade. And Rachel and I spent the entire weekend serving there. We led worship, played games, participated in an illustrated message and helped with the memory verse. After the third service I needed a serious nap. Our current Elementary Pastor, Sidney Hidalgo is being promoted to High School ministry. We are currently interviewing for a new Children’s Pastor. An amazing couple spent the weekend with us because they are considering the opportunity. Currently they are missionaries to Guatemala. Fusion was a blast this weekend. Rachel and I will be back in the adult worship experience this Saturday and Sunday.
